Marie von Kampen has been taking photos from a very young age but formally began studying photography at the Lesley's Art Institute of Boston and Boston Center for Adult Education in 2000. She started with black and white film photography and spent many well-loved hours in the darkroom. She later explored other analog film options like pinhole, infrared and alternative processes, including Polaroid transfer, lumen printing, and phytograms. Benefitting from a professional career in stage and event production, Marie leveraged her behind-the-scenes access to continue to take photos that were used for social media content, press kits, and album artwork for various artists.

Marie took Fundamentals of Digital Photography with Leonie Marinovich and Advanced Digital Photography with Greg Marinovich to adapt her skills from film photography to digital and develop new skills and techniques using advanced photo editing software. Marie published her first photography book, Fall Down Seven Times, Stand Up Eight: A Recovery Diary, in March 2022. Marie is looking forward to exploring the combination of her photography and advanced printmaking skills to create new creative ideas in the future.
